Watermelon for hot summer days

Is there anything better than eating on watermelon on a hot summer evening? Try it with salt to enhance the flavor of the fruit. I learned that a long time ago when I was a young lad back in SE Asia, where we often enough use salt to flavor our fruits. Mind you not all fruits can be eaten with salt. Watermelon, mangoes, apples and star fruits are definitely the must try with salt but Papayas, Durian and bananas are no nos.
This summer, we've had pretty decent selection of watermelons in Chicago. So far only once where we've been disappointed in our selection and they are pretty inexpensive. Except for the last one we bought, it was over $5. We did not realized it was over $5 until after we paid the cashier and we noticed that it was 29cents/pounds for a 16 pounds watermelon. But recently we've seen them goes as low as $2.99 each. So it is quiet cheap even towards the end of the summer.

Kraft launches the Triple Double Oreo - HALLELUJAH!!!

As an avid basketball fan, when I hear of triple double, I usually associates it with basketball statistics where a player accumulates a double digit number total in three of five statistical categories—points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots—in a game.

But just today, I learned of a NEW Triple Double, the Triple Double Oreo cookie which consist of  a layer of vanilla cream, a layer of chocolate cream and three chocolate wafers.

To obtain a statistical Triple Double in basketball is no easy task, but to obtain the Triple Double Oreos, you simply have to bring your fat ass to the store and buy them, exactly what I am goin to do after work today. CHEERS!

The Big Lebowski is out on BLU RAY DVD!!!!

Thirteen years since the movie came out to somewhat bad reviews and lukewarm receptions, The Big Lebowski now enjoys a huge cult following and it is now immortalized on high definition Blu-Ray DVD disc. The movie was loosely based on the novel "The Big Sleep" by Raymond Chandler and starred Jeff Bridges, John Goodman and Julianne Moore.

When I first took my then GF, now wifey to watch this movie, she did not like it. Heck even I thought it was kinda slow moving and dull. But recently, I decided to give it another try and found it still slow moving, but more entertaining than the first time. Maybe the 2nd time around we saw it on the comfort of our living room instead of an overcrowded movie theater in a college town of Normal, IL.

I am glad that this is now on Blu-Ray DVD, although I would think that it would looses a lot of its laid back charm when the picture is too clear & sharp. But then again, maybe we can actually see the pee stain left of The Dude's rug more clearly now that it is on Blu-Ray DVD.

Puckering up: Jeff Bridges shares a kiss on the red carpet with co-star Julianne Moore at the Blu-ray premiere of cult classic The Big Lebowski in New York

Let's go bowling: Along with fellow co-star John Goodman, they all made a lively arrival to the event

Check out my moves: Bridges, who plays The Dude, lived up to the crazy antics of his on-screen character

Ok, enough now: Moore still managed to look elegant in black dress, complete with white bow, as the boys larked around

Cast call: T-Bone Burnett, who worked on the film's soundtrack joined the cast for a photo opportunity

The URBAN breakfast for people on the go.

I LOVE to eat breakfast, (bacon, eggs, toast, pancake etc) but not at breakfast time. I was never a big breakfast type of guy for the simple reason that I hated waking up early for school. But on weekends I absolutely adore breakfast, b'cause we don't have to wake up at 6am. But around 9am and by that time, I am usually hungry from a night of dreaming about food. Anyways that was a long time ago, nowadays, I HAVE to wake up early for work, but since I was never accustomed to eating early in the morning, I usually just have huge cup of coffee with the occasional bowl of cereal. But from my understanding, many city folks are somewhat similar to yours truly. No time for breakfast since they are always on the go during the work days, I see them carry their coffee in their travel mug or they get Starbucks or Dunkin's coffee. The sitting on the breakfast table before work/school is a lost tradition for most city folks. Thus the rise of popularity of folks eating breakfast at breakfast places/diners such as YOLK during the weekends. I would usually past by breakfast establishment on my way to church on Sundays and the line of people outside of Anne Sather and other breakfast joints are incredible long. I often wonder why these people can't just fry their own eggs and use their toasters to burn their bread, but instead they feel the need to pay $8+/plate for their eggs, toast & bacon....I guess it is all about bringing that tradition of sitting down for breakfast that eludes them during the week, and the only time they have for that lost art is the weekends.

Quick weekend recap - Chicago Wizard World Convention 2011

This past weekend, the nerds, geeks & comic book guys/gals swarmed the annual Wizard World 2011 held in it's regular spot @ Rosemont Convention Center. Although I did not go this year, I can still vividly recall from my visit last year, the big open space with lots of vendors trying to sells comic books & comic book related products. Also in attendance was old has been actors trying to promote whatever it is they are trying to promote. San Diego Comic Con this is NOT! Although the selection of comics are the same, but the major attractions are different. Chicago Comic Con is like a visit to your old school comic book stores, where it is still low key, San Diego CC is a different animal all together, especially in recent years where Hollywood seems to take over and even this past July, they had Francis Ford Copolla, YES, the old fat dude that made the Godfather Trilogy.

So here is Chicago's version of Batman & Superman

Here is Robin:

Here is Mr T:

Here is Wolverine:
